An Objective Review of the Network Marketing Business

The more I study about Network Marketing, the more I gain appreciation for this very unique and beautiful business model. In this post, and in the succeeding 4 or 5 posts, I will have videos that will tackle the history and myths associated with Network Marketing. I am so thankful I found these this morning and I am so excited to share it with other network marketers who need more reassurance that they are, truly, in the right business and that their decision to take on the challenges of network marketing is a worthwhile cause. Also, I am very optimistic that these videos will greatly be of help to others who are seriously considering the idea of doing network marketing but are not yet too ready to take the plunge.

Credit goes to the owner and creator of the video, David Wood; this first video talks about the history of Network Marketing and why it is considered not just the wave of the future but really the "Wave of the Present". More importantly, discover why Network Marketing is endorsed by highly successful people and multi-millionaires in the world. This video, and those that will be featured in the following posts are, to me, simply priceless.

Enjoy!

Why I want to do Network Marketing

The increasing number of home-based business opportunities from network marketing is an indication of so many positive things. For one, people who chose to be in this business are primarily taking advantage of the great advantage of earning while, at the same time, having more quality time to spend with their family --- something that they cannot easily afford to do if they are in the traditional job or business. Another reason why network marketers are on the rise is that, finally, people are starting to recognize this as an acceptable and legitimate mode of conducting a business.

There are network marketers that start out real big, promoting companies that start out with great fireworks and fizzle even before they show substantial business profits. We need to be wary of companies that are more concerned about staging a dramatic entrance than planning for long-term possibilities. It is to our best interest to ensure that we promote companies that can show more than fireworks and have lots more to offer after the smokes have died down. Despite our best intentions, we should never fall into the trap of over-promising and under-delivering. This could cost us our career and open doors to a lot of disappointment both to ourselves and our team-members.

The network marketing concept has been around for many, many years. And the fact that it has evolved and has gone through so many positive changes is the reason why it has found its way to be accepted by many as a good way of delivering goods and services. Whichever way you look at it, the idea of doing away with the middle person in the trading process is a cost-efficient way of offering products in the market. This is precisely what network marketing does. However, in the early years, this purpose has not been given much emphasis as more focus and energy were being given to building the network instead.

While it is true that the beauty of network marketing includes the power of leveraging, that is, earning from the collective efforts of other team members, there has to be a right balance to enjoy this unique business opportunity. These days, those who do network marketing from home enjoy the realization that success in this business is not entirely measured by the size of network but rather on the efficiency of the network as it operates. There is a bigger picture and advocacy that drives modern network marketers to see others as people who also have needs to be fulfilled. And by having that desire to satisfy other people’s needs, more than the mere intention of selling something, a more meaningful interaction can take place.

Today, success in network marketing is no longer defined and limited by monetary values and number of people recruited in one’s network. It is more about the symbiotic benefits that each and every person receives and enjoys in the process of growing the network. Come to think of it, even those who didn’t choose to join our network have somehow contributed to our own growth as marketers and individuals as we learned about their own needs when we were given the opportunity to share our business with them. And what about those who joined our group? Well, all of us now enjoy a redefined network; that is, a group of people who chose to consciously and voluntarily belong to one team in order to mutually benefit from shared and unselfish efforts of one another; there is a better sense of belongingness and satisfaction from meeting each other’s needs. I couldn’t think of better reasons why I started to have better appreciation of the network marketing business than these.

STOP CHASING PROSPECTS!

It’s very interesting, and sad, how a great majority would have a very poor image of Network Marketers.  In their mind, network marketers have to chase friends, family members, and prospects. And so, many people also shy away from becoming involved in this business. The idea can really be very daunting.

Wouldn’t it be nice to uplift network marketing and give it a professional image that it truly deserves? No more chasing of friends and relatives. How? Be like a Miss Universe and advocate “World Peace”. Really? Yes, really. Sharing is the most simple yet most effective way of promoting any product, service, or business opportunity. Know what people need and help them by sharing --- sharing the benefits of your products, sharing the opportunity to earn heftily by doing the business, sharing the hope of a better life and achieving financial freedom. Everybody has a dream. But not everyone would want to do network marketing. Respect that. When you’ve shared and people are simply not keen on new ideas, leave them alone.

So how do you go about finding people to talk to? Ask for referrals. That’s more effective than trying to directly sell the concept and ideas to the person you’re talking to. But of course, you might also meet people who will actually be interested and ask for more information. These are the people who might actually love the product, service, or opportunity and would be more than happy to share them to their own circle of friends. That’s not something to be sad about, is it? You’ve shared to and helped one person. And then she will be able to help others as well. What could be more fulfilling than that? When network marketing is done the right way, the professional way, you will never run out of people who will be willing to give you referrals and people who will actually want to join your team.

Nowadays, network marketing can also be done online.  Integrating online marketing to your chosen profession will open new doors, wider doors, that you may never have imagined. When you learn how to “attract” people who are precisely looking for opportunities or products and services that you offer, they will come to you. They will get in touch with you voluntarily. This is an entirely new and unique dynamic called “attraction marketing” which effectively eliminates the chasing and hounding of friends and relatives. And the good news is, the concept of “attraction marketing” can also be applied offline. When you show how you can conduct the business in a professional manner, you will easily be able to attract others.

Where’s the Big Money in Network Marketing?

The Big Money is earned by the “early birds”. Those who enrolled early in network marketing companies are the ones who earn big time. Correct? I beg to disagree. I know of so many people who have been around with a networking company for over ten years. And I also know of people who have just joined over a year and who are earning way, way more than their sponsors.  You see, Network Marketing has a unique and absolutely brilliant structure. Everyone who joins become the owner of their own business. They become franchises of a business that already has a system in place – system that’s proven to work. However, just like any other business, nothing will work if you will NOT WORK. Follow the system, work hard, and you get good results. No work. No pay. Follow the wrong formula, get poor results. It’s really just as simple as that.

Stacey was a janitress when she joined a network company. She sacrificed one month salary to enroll herself and shared the business like crazy. She would talk to just about everyone just to get instant cash. Stacey is now one of the top earners and is still working hard to motivate her team members to do the same thing. Her sponsor? Oh, Mandy is quite happy with his current lifestyle. He did not pursue network marketing on a full time basis but he is still getting a handsome amount of money as over-riding bonuses because of hard-working downlines like Stacey. He is certainly benefiting from the large organization that this ex-janitress has built over the years. But compared to the income being received by Stacey, Mandy’s check is nothing. But isn’t that just fair? It is, because Stacey is consistently working hard all these years.

And there is this husband and wife team of Tim and Amy. Both started as part-time networkers but eventually learned to improve their craft as seasoned networkers. They worked their way up and built a business that could mostly be done right at the comfort of their own home. They have merited many recognition awards from their company including the “Most Improved Distributor” of the Year. But the greatest rewards are their newly-found financial freedom and the joy of being able to work at home where they can also be hands-on with their children. This is, again, just one success story of people who out-performed their sponsors.

Bottom line is, most people have the preconceived notion that they need to join an organization in its pioneering stage to be on top. The mindset is conditioned to think that the earlier you join and sign up, the better as you get paid by other people’s effort. But the reality is that it is far from the truth. The compensation plan is structured THE SAME FOR EVERYONE. You get to be on board and given equal opportunity as everyone else in the team. You are your own boss and the position DOES NOT MATTER. What counts is your effort to produce results.

And so the next time you get the opportunity to join a good network marketing company, never think people will only use you to get rich. The structure is set to give everyone the opportunity to earn passive income at a certain point when they are able to build a strong organization of their own. Your leader will enjoy that only if he works hard himself. And if you become a better leader than he is, you are likely to get more huge paychecks in your account – all because you earned it and treated network marketing like it’s your own business.

How to be a Successful Network Marketer

It's all about YOU. It's your mindset, your determination, your persistence that will make network marketing work for you. It's not your leaders, not the product, or not the company that will sustain you on your journey to financial freedom. It's YOU -- your attitude, your desire to keep learning, and your ability to imbibe the important lessons you learn along the way. It is YOUR refusal to wither under extreme pressure. If you want to make network marketing work, then work on the "YOU".

These are basically the same things I read about as I am doing my homework on how to be a successful network marketer. If I see network marketing as my vehicle to reach my life's dreams, I figured I should possess basic traits that would make me stay on this field not just for a few weeks or a few months. And if I intend to stay in this on a long-term basis, there has to be traits that I should learn to master so I won't easily quit (as most people do!) at the first sign of difficulty.

Now, this is something that really struck me --- that for the most part, the only way to achieve success in network marketing is to always work on yourself. No matter how many zeros or commas your pay-in checks will show, you always end up on the winning end because you acquire the winning habit of improving yourself. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I'm implying that it's okay not to make money because you end up becoming a better person anyway. I guess what I really just meant is that the word "success" doesn't always have to be measured by the dollar sign; and that the biggest success and reward you can ever have as you do this business is coming up with a BETTER VERSION OF YOU each day.

Now I want to share a good article I read about the traits one must possess to succeed in network marketing. Again, thanks to one virtual mentor who is fast becoming one of my favorite persons these days. Learn from this very good article courtesy of Ray Higdon.

Truth: How to Make it in
Network Marketing

A guy asked me the other day, “what does it take to build a successful MLM business?” This is my answer and How to make it in Network Marketing.

Wanna Make Money in Network Marketing?

There are a few traits you have to possess or learn, if you want to make money in network marketing, they are:
- Consistency
- Self-Confidence
- Resistance to discouragement
Now, there are other skills that if possessed will help you as well but if you can grip that THOSE three traits are the most important, you can learn how to make it in network marketing.

The Two Biggest Problems with Network Marketing

1. It costs too little to join. Yeah, it is true. One of the best things about network marketing is it is so cheap to join, usually less than $2,000 but sometimes as little as $25. This is actually a problem. Why? Well, when there is such low barrier to entry, people don’t take it serious or treat it like an actually business that their life depends on. Make it $50,000 to join ANY network marketing company and watch the culture and pedigree of people change. And honestly, why shouldn’t it be? You can build massive residual incomes in multi level marketing, why not prevent non-serious people from joining by charging a ton of money? Franchises do it. When a partner and I bought an advertising franchise it was $38,000 for ten empty ad boards, a book and a couple days of training, I have gotten WAY more from almost every network marketing business I have ever joined.
2. You don’t always have the best mentoring and training. So you have half or non-trained running around spewing their company crap at everyone they know and meet and it is just a mess. One of the keys on how to make it in network marketing is getting groomed for leadership. Most people are simply not getting that AND they are too weenie to learn it on their own.

Simply, How to Make it in Network Marketing

Let’s come back to the three traits you need.
1. Consistency. I hear people say, “But Ray, I just don’t know what to do!” Which, quite frankly, is pure baloney. Saying you are confused works for people, and has their whole life as it gets them more attention, but, it isn’t the truth. What I usually say to someone that says they are confused as to what their daily method of operation should be is “What would you tell someone to do everyday if they wanted to know how to make it in network marketing?” The funny thing? They always know. So, if YOU are reading this and just don’t know what to do each day, ask yourself how you would instruct someone in your team.
2. Self-Confidence. One thing I heard near billionaire Felix Dennis say is “If you don’t believe in yourself, why the hell should anyone else?” Don’t believe in yourself? Get over it. Begin today to replace the time you mope and buy into others disbelief and get some self-confidence. This again is part of the problem with network marketing being so low entry, if it cost $50,000 to start, people of low self-confidence would never buy in as they would weed themselves out. If you do NOT have self-confidence, invest in your training, get a coach or mentor but get over it and GROW. I used to suffer greatly from depression and self-doubt but I simply replaced my bad habits with good habits and that changed my life. Instead of focusing on why people didn’t like me or had I didn’t get along with people, I read, studied and listened to audio books.
3. Resistance to discouragement. If you truly want to know how to make it in network marketing, this sums it up, Don’t Quit. Yes, you are gonna have friends and family members tell you it’s a scam or pyramid thing and they will continue to live mediocre lives and work forever but you CANNOT get discouraged. Stop being addicted to the outcome and stop seeking permission and acceptance and instead, BUILD YOU. NOWHERE can you get the level of mentoring and coaching for as low a cost as in network marketing. Even if you never make a dime, you still get so much out of this industry in self-growth. Know that it is NOT easy, but it is well worth it.
