How to be a Successful Network Marketer

It's all about YOU. It's your mindset, your determination, your persistence that will make network marketing work for you. It's not your leaders, not the product, or not the company that will sustain you on your journey to financial freedom. It's YOU -- your attitude, your desire to keep learning, and your ability to imbibe the important lessons you learn along the way. It is YOUR refusal to wither under extreme pressure. If you want to make network marketing work, then work on the "YOU".

These are basically the same things I read about as I am doing my homework on how to be a successful network marketer. If I see network marketing as my vehicle to reach my life's dreams, I figured I should possess basic traits that would make me stay on this field not just for a few weeks or a few months. And if I intend to stay in this on a long-term basis, there has to be traits that I should learn to master so I won't easily quit (as most people do!) at the first sign of difficulty.

Now, this is something that really struck me --- that for the most part, the only way to achieve success in network marketing is to always work on yourself. No matter how many zeros or commas your pay-in checks will show, you always end up on the winning end because you acquire the winning habit of improving yourself. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I'm implying that it's okay not to make money because you end up becoming a better person anyway. I guess what I really just meant is that the word "success" doesn't always have to be measured by the dollar sign; and that the biggest success and reward you can ever have as you do this business is coming up with a BETTER VERSION OF YOU each day.

Now I want to share a good article I read about the traits one must possess to succeed in network marketing. Again, thanks to one virtual mentor who is fast becoming one of my favorite persons these days. Learn from this very good article courtesy of Ray Higdon.

Truth: How to Make it in
Network Marketing

A guy asked me the other day, “what does it take to build a successful MLM business?” This is my answer and How to make it in Network Marketing.

Wanna Make Money in Network Marketing?

There are a few traits you have to possess or learn, if you want to make money in network marketing, they are:
- Consistency
- Self-Confidence
- Resistance to discouragement
Now, there are other skills that if possessed will help you as well but if you can grip that THOSE three traits are the most important, you can learn how to make it in network marketing.

The Two Biggest Problems with Network Marketing

1. It costs too little to join. Yeah, it is true. One of the best things about network marketing is it is so cheap to join, usually less than $2,000 but sometimes as little as $25. This is actually a problem. Why? Well, when there is such low barrier to entry, people don’t take it serious or treat it like an actually business that their life depends on. Make it $50,000 to join ANY network marketing company and watch the culture and pedigree of people change. And honestly, why shouldn’t it be? You can build massive residual incomes in multi level marketing, why not prevent non-serious people from joining by charging a ton of money? Franchises do it. When a partner and I bought an advertising franchise it was $38,000 for ten empty ad boards, a book and a couple days of training, I have gotten WAY more from almost every network marketing business I have ever joined.
2. You don’t always have the best mentoring and training. So you have half or non-trained running around spewing their company crap at everyone they know and meet and it is just a mess. One of the keys on how to make it in network marketing is getting groomed for leadership. Most people are simply not getting that AND they are too weenie to learn it on their own.

Simply, How to Make it in Network Marketing

Let’s come back to the three traits you need.
1. Consistency. I hear people say, “But Ray, I just don’t know what to do!” Which, quite frankly, is pure baloney. Saying you are confused works for people, and has their whole life as it gets them more attention, but, it isn’t the truth. What I usually say to someone that says they are confused as to what their daily method of operation should be is “What would you tell someone to do everyday if they wanted to know how to make it in network marketing?” The funny thing? They always know. So, if YOU are reading this and just don’t know what to do each day, ask yourself how you would instruct someone in your team.
2. Self-Confidence. One thing I heard near billionaire Felix Dennis say is “If you don’t believe in yourself, why the hell should anyone else?” Don’t believe in yourself? Get over it. Begin today to replace the time you mope and buy into others disbelief and get some self-confidence. This again is part of the problem with network marketing being so low entry, if it cost $50,000 to start, people of low self-confidence would never buy in as they would weed themselves out. If you do NOT have self-confidence, invest in your training, get a coach or mentor but get over it and GROW. I used to suffer greatly from depression and self-doubt but I simply replaced my bad habits with good habits and that changed my life. Instead of focusing on why people didn’t like me or had I didn’t get along with people, I read, studied and listened to audio books.
3. Resistance to discouragement. If you truly want to know how to make it in network marketing, this sums it up, Don’t Quit. Yes, you are gonna have friends and family members tell you it’s a scam or pyramid thing and they will continue to live mediocre lives and work forever but you CANNOT get discouraged. Stop being addicted to the outcome and stop seeking permission and acceptance and instead, BUILD YOU. NOWHERE can you get the level of mentoring and coaching for as low a cost as in network marketing. Even if you never make a dime, you still get so much out of this industry in self-growth. Know that it is NOT easy, but it is well worth it.

My Leap of Faith

I have been doing a lot of reading lately because, just a few weeks ago, I decided to take a leap of faith and decided to go right ahead and start my network marketing business.  Oh you can say that the “leap” really took a lot of thinking, debating, and arguing --- with MYSELF. Right, with MYSELF. You see, the greatest stumbling blocks that you need to overcome when you venture into something new are your own fears.

What will family and friends say?
Dream stealers are just about everywhere. It seems like a lot of people have their own brilliant opinion when it comes to network marketing; and unfortunately, they aren’t at all very positive. So just when my heart is all out to try this new venture and pursue my dreams, my head is taking its own time trying to process all the negative comments.

But after all the reading and research (which is still ongoing by the way), it’s a good thing to discover that network marketing is a recognized and legitimate way of doing business. Reputable schools and universities even offer courses about network marketing.

Then I imagined all those people who have succeeded in network marketing on my right side, then those opinionated people on my left side. The difference? Those on the right side are happy to be financially independent. They are millionaires. Those on the left? Well, let’s just say they’re the exact opposite of those people on the right side – hardly able to make ends meet, struggling to pay monthly bills, and are just too busy finding something wrong in just about everything! They’re in the habit of complaining; and believe me, they’re getting real good at it!

So why bother and pay so much attention to what other people would think and say about our OWN decisions? This is MY life and at the end of the day, it is not the neighbor who will pay my bills and certainly not the ones who will send my daughter to school or provide food on the table.

What if they say network marketing is illegal or something? Can you just imagine the likes of Donald  Trump, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, and Robert Kiyosaki endorsing something illegal? Yes,  all these big names only have the highest regard for network marketing. And given the choice who to believe, hands down, I’d go for these people who know what they’re talking about.

Afraid of being rejected

I’ve had a lot of bloopers and misfortunes in life. How can I possibly embrace a career in network marketing that will simply open more opportunities for people to reject me and my ideas? I was simply afraid to hear the big “no”. Silly of me for taking it so personal…. If they will say “no” , they’re simply saying “no” to the business opportunity. Nothing personal, really.

This short incident I read somewhere all the more enlightened me on this aspect:

“Look, when you order a hamburger at McDonald’s and the clerk behind the counter asks you if you would like fries with that and you tell him/her “NO Thanks!” she is not likely to go bursting into tears because of your rejection, is she?”

Gee, of course not! I just didn’t want fries. Period.

There goes… it’s going to be the same when I talk to people about business opportunity. They could say “no” and I simply need to accept that there has to be a lot of good reasons for them to do that. Perhaps the timing is not right for them, they might like the concept but not sold on the products, or they are just financially strapped at the moment.

So how should I deal with the big “no”? I figured I could just shrug it off and move on. But remember that circumstances change and it will be most prudent to always keep in touch. If it’s just the timing that’s just not right, things could be different next week or next month. Consider the “no” as “not right now” instead. And hey, I won’t forget to ask for referrals. I just might run into the real deal if this person refers me to someone who’s more ready and motivated to grab the opportunity I’m offering. It can be surprising to see how these people could be so eager to give referrals – for most of them, they would think it’s the least they can do to compensate us for our time and effort to introduce the business to them.

My biggest struggle is believing in myself

“You’re great mommy. You’re the best mom ever – the best in the whole world wide web!”. Those words came out of the blue from my 6-year old daughter, thanking me for teaching her a new math trick to make addition and subtraction a lot easier.

It’s incredible how those simple words can make me feel a little bit of success. And although it has nothing to do with my networking abilities, it has nevertheless triggered that “someone believes in you” button. Coming from the most important person in my life, that made the big difference. A 6-year old adorable girl looks up to me like a superwoman, how can I let her see otherwise?

So I told myself  “I can do this, and I will make things happen!”

What’s next?

Now I am just thankful that I have, one by one, started to be aware of my biggest fears. Well, from time to time they do pop out of nowhere but I have finally learned how to effectively tell them to get out of my way.

All those fears felt so much “at home” in  my head for so many years. All along, it was just ME who was standing in the way of achieving my greatest dreams. The right mindset and personal development are two of the most important cornerstones for the success of network marketing business – or any business for that matter.

I am on my way to achieve my goals…..  Join me on my journey, and see you on the other side!!!

4 Reasons People Say NO to a Network Marketing Business Opportunity

One of the many things that can get you down as a networker is when you hear that word "NO" from your prospects. You may not actually hear them say it pointblank but the fact that they just can't (or won't) join your team now is something that can ruin your day, right?

I came across this article and it has really brought a lot of enlightenment on the subject matter. I figured it is worth sharing and could  be valuable to all the networkers out there who, up to now, might find it so hard to shrug off the experience of receiving a "no" after a well-prepared business presentation.

Negative responses from several prospects is a normal part of the networking business. You really can't just have it all. When you embrace this reality, you can move on without so much of a scratch. But there's something in those rejections that may deserve a closer look; they could be trying to send a message across and you have to learn not to ignore them if you want to get more "yes" in the future. There are reasons why your prospects decided to pass on the opportunity you offered, and you need to know those things so you can address them accordingly.

Read on and I hope you'll appreciate and enjoy the article as much as I did.

Cheers to your success!

4 Reasons People Say NO to a Network Marketing Business Opportunity
by: Ray Higdon

I coach and train a lot of people that promote and market a network marketing business opportunity. A subject that upsets a lot of them is when they know or find someone that they believe would be PERFECT for their business and that person says no. This blog will help you uncover why someone would say no to a network marketing business opportunity and how to increase your chances that more people tell you YES!

1. Money

Robert Kiyosaki points out in this article that people with employee mindsets concentrate much more on their resources whereas an entrepreneur concentrates more on the opportunity. Said another way, employees concentrate on what will go wrong and entrepreneurs focus on what could go right. An employee-type mindset will focus on what money they have in their account currently versus how great the opportunity is and ways they might be able to come up with money. Now, a network marketing business opportunity is unique in that, unlike a franchise that costs $30-$300,000, you can get into a network marketing business opportunity for a few hundred dollars. But, you will STILL have employee mindset people say No to you as they just can’t see them having extra money to spend on autoships or the upfront cost. You’ll notice that this is an interesting paradigm in that the people you meet that MOST need an opportunity, will be unable to see it.

2. Past Experience

Most of us have had a poorly trained mlm business owner trick us, annoy us, chase us, beg us to look at their network marketing business opportunity. A lot of people that have been approached this way thinkthis is the ONLY way to promote a network marketing business opportunity. Not very many people on this planet want to trick and hound their friends into looking at an opportunity. That method is outdated, inefficient and simply does not work. If you are approaching the majority of people that have been “sleezed” on, you will have to be prepared to tell but also SHOW how your approach is not one that chases, begs and bugs. There is excellent training out there on how to approach people the right way, make sure you are and then share it with others.

3. Product

People join people, not an opportunity. This is true, but, a network marketing business is about duplication not just getting a sign-up bonus. At some point, it DOES come down to the product. Back in the 1990′s a company named Excel Telecommunications EXPLODED in growth. Experts say the reason is it was a product thatprofessional people could see themselves involved in versus what had previously been offered in a network marketing business opportunity. A great leader and a great compensation plan is NOT enough to sustain years and years of growth, you do have to evaluate your product and see who naturally would be interested in it. This may sound like I am blasting the health and wellness mlm’s and I am not, if I was in a health and wellness mlm I would simply choose my prospects more carefully to be more toward people who have an inclination toward health and wellness.

4. You

Sales are contingent upon the attitude of the salesman – not the attitude of the prospect.– W. Clement Stone
Lets say you meet you at a restaurant. You talk to you about a network marketing business opportunity. Would you sign up with you? If the answer isn’t a resounding yes, you need to work on YOU to change that!
Don’t wish for things to be easier, wish for YOU to be better.- Jim Rohn
Network marketing is about duplication, not simple sales. That is sometimes why it is difficult to get a salesperson who has been a salesperson all their life to see the beauty of network marketing because they don’t grasp passive income or income on work they did not themselves accomplish. When you approach people about your network marketing business opportunity, are you doing it in a way that can be easily duplicated? Or, are you talking to them for 30-45 minutes and even perhaps doing a presentation for them?WOULD THEY WANT TO DO THAT? Can most people just do presentations in front of strangers? The answer is NO, you need to have a better way. Use 3rd party tools such as videos, events, and conference calls to build your business and to give them a way that they can build as well.
You have to believe in yourself. If you do not believe in you, why the hell should anyone else? The more belief you have in yourself and your company, the more people will WANT to join you and your company.
Castles made of sand slip into the sea, eventually
- Jimi Hendrix
I had to throw in a Hendrix line as I just visited the Rock’n'Roll hall of fame yesterday. If you do not believe in yourself, constantly, vigilantly and for more than a couple days, you will constantly struggle to build your business. Belief is FREE and you can choose to have it RIGHT NOW. Know that it has been done before and you can do it. Know that people lesser than you, dumber than you, poorer than you have created massive empires and you can too. Bump up your belief and you will bump up your income!
